Government Relations and Advocacy Services
Political influence and successful advocacy is built upon careful strategy and the bringing together of four disciplines – policy analysis, government relations, stakeholder relations and media management.
Successful advocacy cannot afford to be narrowly focused.
While targeting a Cabinet minister is fine, final Cabinet decisions will be determined by the opinions of Cabinet colleagues, the party caucus, coalition/governing partners and advice from officials, with influence being exerted by the media and public opinion.
Furthermore, major policy and legislative decisions are not made overnight. They are the consequence of extensive policy research and analysis, ministerial discussion, parliamentary debate, select committee deliberation and media scrutiny.
The need for ministers to navigate these various hazards provides opportunities to bend and influence even the most stubborn ministerial opinions and pre-determined objectives – if you press all the right buttons.
Network’s Government Relations and Advocacy services will assist you to navigate through the decision making process.
MMP’s Influence On Government
Interaction with government in a MMP political environment is complex and has led to a new approach, with successful solutions requiring negotiation, collaboration, deal making and problem solving.
Given our vast ‘network’ of contacts with key decision makers in government and government departments we are able to combine our facilitation and communication skills and experience to make things happen in a manner that provides a classic win-win for both our client and the wider entities we deal with. Central to this approach is building trusting relationships.
Network has worked with a range of clients facing different political and policy challenges across many sectors. These projects have all differed vastly, some focused on policy detail and service delivery, some on building political relationships, or exerting media pressure on Government.
