Deletions and additions 2008
This section provides updates for the paper edition of the 2008 New Zealand Government Directory. Every year there are a number of significant additions and deletions
to the Directory, reflecting restructuring or sale of state assets. Recent
changes include:

Rights Protection Party (New Zealand F.R.P.P), Outdoor Recreation NZ, Te Tawharau

The Chief Ombudsman, John Belgrave, died after a battle with cancer in early December 2007.
Other significant changes

Mangere MP Taito Phillip Field was sacked from Cabinet in February 2007 and
resigned from the Labour Party to became an independent MP

United Future List MP Gordon Copeland resigned from United Future on 16 May
2007 and became an independent MP. He intends to establish a new party based on
‘Judeo-Christian values’

Conservation Minister David Benson-Pope resigned from Cabinet on 27 July 2007

A major Cabinet reshuffle on 31 October 2007 saw two further Ministers step down from Cabinet (Steve Maharey and David Burton), three Ministers promoted into Cabinet (Steve Chadwick, Shane Jones and Maryan Street) as well as numerous portfolio changes

Around the time of the Cabinet reshuffle, the following MPs had announced their intention to retire
at or before the next General Election, scheduled for late 2008:

The next General Election will be fought on new boundaries announced by the
Election Commission in September 2007. Changes include a new electorate in
Auckland named Botany, meaning there will be 70 electorates at the next two General Elections – 63 general seats and seven Mäori seats. There will also be 50 Party List seats.

to the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry

The Police Complaints Authority has been renamed the Independent Police Conduct Authority and given new powers
